Award winning RiskScape team

Proud winners of the Best Hi-Tech Solution for the Public Good award at the 2022 NZ Hi-Tech Awards.

It was with high excitement and great pride that the RiskScape team from GNS Science and NIWA, with Toka Tū Ake EQC and Catalyst, were awarded the Best Hi-Tech Solution for the Public Good award at the NZ Hi-tech awards black tie gala dinner at the TSB Arena earlier this month.

Just one of many entries in the Public Good category, only two were selected finalists. RiskScape shared that honour with Kara Technologies, which won a highly commended award for its outstanding work improving accessibility and quality of service for people who are deaf by providing sign language using digital avatars.

A fabulous event that showcases the very best of Kiwi technology and innovation, the awards dinner is described as an evening of celebration, inspiration, networking, food, and entertainment. The work and the extraordinary talent being celebrated at the awards is summed up beautifully in the closing words of the Prime Minister’s address, where she acknowledges the experts of the technology sector. “You aren’t just the best in the world, you are the best for the world.” We think that describes our RiskScape team to a tee!

This award is a well-deserved recognition of the impact that RiskScape makes in helping New Zealand to understand the risk of, and build resilience to, natural hazards. It’s the outcome of years of hard work across GNS, and with our partners at NIWA, Toka Tū Ake EQC, and Catalyst.

RiskScape uses information about our hazards, our people, and our built environment to better understand the risks from natural hazards. It helps us understand the impact of natural hazards on our people and property, so that we can anticipate impacts and better respond to and recover from them.
